1. About iEverText

Do you want to pick favorite expressions out as you browse webpages or ebooks and store them in your notes directly? Do you want to edit a shared text between your computer and iPhone any time creative inspirations strike? That's easy with iEverText !

iEverText is a powerful and versatile Text Editor having lots of nice features, available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. iEverText combines practicality with portability - that is what a Writer's Workshop should be.

With iEverText, you have all the power you expect from a full-featured multipurpose text editing program - writing and editing several text documents at a time, saving each file hierarchically in the Evernote, exchanging them between iPhone devices and a Mac, PC, or other devices including Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Android. You can email an editing text instantly, and preview webpages, ebooks, and downloaded files directly in iEverText to utilize their texts. iEverText also allows you to use the Evernote directly online, and supports TextExpander touch snippet expansion.

iEverText creates a plain text.
The texts are saved directly onto the Evernote online in iEverText.

2. iEverText Basics

Displays the Status bar which is common to iPhone applications at the top of the screen.
iEverText also displays the Navigation bar at the upper part, the Text view in the central part, and the Toolbar at the bottom part of the screen.

  
    

2.1. Navigation bar

iEverText displays a list of open text files' names [Select Text Name] in the center of the Navigation bar, at the upper part of the screen. Roughly 3 to 6 names appear, and the first left one is a current-editing file. To see more, tap [ ] that will appear in the last-right corner.

  
    

2.2. Text view

iEverText displays your text in the central part of the screen.
By default, you can see the line numbers every 5 lines at the left edge.

* For the special features in Japanese, you can use the vertical writing, rubies and emphasis dots in the Text view. You can also apply the Japanese-manuscript paper and the bottom borders to text in Japanese.

  
    

2.3. Toolbar

iEverText displays some icons in the Toolbar, at the bottom part of the screen.
These icons resemble the menus of the general text applications for a Mac or Windows, and give you handy access. When you rotate iPhone to landscape, more icons will appear. Each icon executes the following actions.

[Evernote]     Evernote.
[Edit]     Undo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Select All, and Show Clipboard, etc.
[Find]     Search, Search / Replace, Jump, to Selection, etc.
[Info]     Character Count, Settings, Select Layout, Vertical Writing, and Help.
[Write]    Ups the onscreen keyboard to type.

[Resize]    Appears on iPad only, to resize the screen width.

4.1. Text Action

New Text    Opens an untitled screen to create a new text. It is ready to type, and ups the onscreen keyboard. See more > Text Operations

Open    Displays the "Evernote" to open an existing, saved text from the Evernote online.
With the "Evernote", you can delete, rename, move, and search files as well.

Sync with Evernote    Either of them appears, providing you are now editing a file opened from the Evernote. While editing a file that normally opened from your iPhone memory, neither appear. Connects to the Evernote, to sync files sharing with a Mac, PC, or other devices. As you compare the opened current text file and the original file, you can reopen an updated file from the Evernote, or update your changes onto the Evernote anytime. Through the Evernote, you can exchange and share files automatically online between iPhone and a Mac, PC, or other devices.

Save / Save Changes    Saves the changes of an open text onto the Evernote. If you tap this on a new text, iEverText executes "Save As" instead.
Either of them appears, providing you are now editing a file opened from the Evernote. Connects to the Evernote, to update your changes. These save your changes to the original file on the Evernote, without consideration of any change of sharing with a Mac, PC, or other devices. If you want to save and update your changes onto the Evernote, while comparing the opened current text file and the original file, use Sync with Evernote.

Save As    Displays the "Save As" that enables you to give the file a name and save it directly onto the Evernote. With the "Save As", you can also create a new folder.

Share    Share an editing text, directly from iEverText.
About send via email. Providing you have made a text selection before sending, you can choose which one you want to send with the following "Send via Mail".

Don't Save and Close / Discard Changes and Close    Don't save and close an editing text.

  
    

4.2. Evernote

Evernote    Displays the "Evernote" to open an existing, saved text from the Evernote online.
With the "Evernote", you can delete, rename, move, and search files as well.

  
    

4.3. Edit

Undo    Executes undo, reversing your last typing or the effect of the last action made in the current editing session. You can also do this by shaking iPhone.

Cut    Removes the current selection and puts it onto the clipboard, replacing the previous contents. Unless you have made a text selection, it cuts one paragraph under the cursor.
If you want to store more than one clip within the clipboard, use the "Clipboard".
You can also do this by tapping [Cut] in the Copy & Paste menu bar.

Copy    Puts a copy of the current selection onto the Clipboard, replacing the previous contents. Unless you have made a text selection, it copies one paragraph under the cursor. You can also do this by tapping [Copy] in the Copy & Paste menu bar.

Paste    Inserts the contents of the Clipboard into the editing text at the insertion point or replaces the highlighted selection. You can also do this by tapping [Paste] in the Copy & Paste menu bar.

Select All    Selects everything in the editing text. While you have a text selection, or are searching or replacing a text, this disappears. By tapping [Select All] in the Copy & Paste menu bar, you can do this even while searching or replacing.

Select Conversion    This appears, providing you have made a text selection.
Displays the "Select Conversion" that enables you to change the selection to uppercase, lower case, or capitalize, or also change it to double width or the normal width.
This also allows text in Japanese to toggle between Zenkaku-Moji and Hankaku-Moji, and to change Hiragana to Katakana, or the reverse.
You can also do them by tapping [Select] in the Copy & Paste menu bar.

Show Clipboard    Displays the "Clipboard" that enables you to put more than one clip onto the clipboard, and give the clips individual names to store them in the iPhone memory. You can quickly copy/paste each one into any text. With the "Clipboard", you can delete or change the order, or modify an existing one as well.

Search All    This appears, providing you are now in the Search or the Search / Replace mode. Displays the "Search All" to search for all occurrences of the search expression and then displays all result strings. You can view any search by tapping a result in the list.
With the "Search All", you can search all again or find another word as well.

Replace All    This appears, providing you are now in the Search / Replace mode. Searches for all occurrences of the search expression, and then changes all search to the replacement expression at once. After replacing, you will see the confirmation message.

  
    

4.4. Find

Search     Displays the search bar to search the current text for a word or phrase in the Search mode. As required, you can search without consideration of upper or lower case letters, or diacritic letters, or with wrap around. You can search for a text with the Regular Expression, as well. As you search, you can effectively rewrite or edit the searches.
Providing you have made a text selection within one paragraph, this disappears and Search Selection appears instead.

Search Selection    This appears, providing you have made a text selection within one paragraph. Displays the search bar and searches the next occurrence of the current selection between the current selection and the end of a text in the Search mode.

Search / Replace     Displays the search / replacement bars to search the current text for a word or phrase, and then changes the search to the replacement expression, in the Search / Replace mode. As you search, you can change each occurrence to the replacement expression in turn. You can replace all occurrences at once, or rewrite and edit the search, as well.

Jump    Displays the line numbers slider bar in the Jump mode. By using the slider or icons, you can quickly move the editing cursor anywhere.
You can also view text by turning each page over in turn like paper notes, providing that the current page layout is "Show Page Size".

to Selection    Jumps to the insertion point or the start of the current text selection.

  
    

4.5. Info

Character Count    Displays the "Character Count" to browse the text statistics including the number of characters, words, paragraphs, lines, pages, and the Unicodes' characters. You can copy the statistics, as well.
Providing you have made a text selection before counting, you will see only its statistics.

Settings    Displays the "Settings" that enables you to change the current text settings and the overall look of iEverText. You can take your easiest ways of typing and editing as well.
You can select which best suits the current editing from a variety of text settings - the text style, line format, page layout, including the font, size, color, adjustment, line space and width, margins, word wrap, and tab intervals etc.
You can also change the appearance of the background color, icons, Toolbar, and Navigation bar.

Select Layout    Displays the "Select Layout" that enables you to customize your own various layouts, and give each one an individual name, to use a favorite layout quickly.
With a tap, you can also hide unwanted bottom borders, or use a helpful ready-made layout - Memo, Notes, Book Reader, Japanese manuscript paper etc.
With the "Select Layout", you can also delete or change the order, or modify an existing layout. If you want to delete all layouts you added, you can readily return the list to the default selections, too.

Vertical Writing / Horizontal Writing    Switches the writing direction between the standard horizontal, left to right and the vertical, top to bottom. With the "Vertical Writing", you can edit in the natural direction for Japanese and Chinese.

Help    Displays the "Help". As you edit a text, you can see the iEverText help whenever you are not exactly sure how it works. You can copy any explanation onto the clipboard while browsing the help. With the "Help", you can check helpful information online, as well.

  
    

4.6. Write

When you do any of the following, ups the onscreen keyboard to type a text in the Write mode.
A. Double-tap the Text view.
B. Tap the [Write] icon in the Toolbar.

* The standard spell checker and autocapitalize sentences will help you write.
* iEverText supports TextExpander touch snippet expansion.
* The line numbers and the invisibles do not appear in the Write mode.

While holding the keyboard, you can make a text selection and use the Copy & Paste menu bar, as well as the regular text editing. See more > Text Operations

* By shaking iPhone, you can undo your typing.
* Tapping [Cancel] discards your entries.


* Two additional buttons that enable you to move an editing cursor to the left and the right like a keyboard's arrow keys appear in the Navigation bar. These buttons appear only in iOS 5 and later.


* Besides, [Undo] and [Redo] buttons appear in the Navigation bar, providing that your device is iPad in iOS 5 and later.

* While entering Japanese characters in the Write mode, note the following.
1. The Japanese-manuscript paper and the bottom borders do not appear.
2. Hiragino Kaku Gothic W3 is used instead of your choice in some cases.
3. The Vertical Writing returns to the standard horizontal.
4. Rubies and emphasis dots are expressed following Aozora Bunko.

 

  
    

4.7. Resize

A [Resize] icon appears, providing that your device is iPad.
Displays the slider bar, and shows the current screen width in pixels.
You can resize the screen width as you like.

* The pixels have the same value as the number of dots of the screen.

  
    

5. How to use Action Screens

  
    

5.1. Evernote

When you tap [Evernote] from the Toolbar, the "Evernote" appears.
You can open, delete, rename, move, and search existing, saved text files within the Evernote online.

5.1.1. Evernote - File Search

When you tap the search bar in the "Evernote", ups the onscreen keyboard.
For quick on-screen reading and/or editing, you can search saved text files within the Evernote for any word or phrase, and then open the file efficiently.

  
    

5.1.2. Evernote - Edit

When you tap [Edit] in the "Evernote", the "Evernote - Now Editing" appears.
You can delete or move a note/tag/notebook, or change the name of a note/tag/notebook of the Evernote.

  
    

5.1.3. Evernote - Sort By

When you tap [ = ] of the Navigation bar in the "Evernote", the "Sort By" appears.

Name Order    Sort by the title order.
Newer Order    Sort by the newer order of updated date.
Older Order    Sort by the older order of updated date.
Default    Sort by the newer order of created date.

  
    

5.2. Open

When you tap [File] > [Open] from the Navigation bar, the "Evernote" appears.
You can open, delete, rename, move, and search existing, saved text files within the Evernote online.

"Open" is same as the "Evernote".

  
    

5.3. Save As

When you tap [File] > [Save As] from the Navigation bar, the "Save As" appears.
You can give the current file a name, and save it to the Evernote online.

There are other helpful options for saving in [Settings] > "Open and Save" ;
A. By changing "Untitled", you can save all the files without typing their file names. This enters the file name automatically with either the first line or the date of each file.

5.3.1. Save As - New Folder

When you tap the [New Folder] icon at the bottom second right in the "Save As", the "New Folder" appears and ups the onscreen keyboard.
You can create a new folder hierarchically to organize your files neatly.
In the same way, you can create a new tag/notebook onto the Evernote.

  
    

5.4. Share

When you tap [File] > [Share] from the Navigation bar, the "Share" appears.
Send the editing text to the other application.

  
    

5.4.1. Send via Mail

When you tap [Send via Mail] from the "Share", the "Send via Mail" appears.
Providing that you have made a text selection before tapping [Send via Mail], you can choose what you want the current selection to be.
You can send either all current-editing text with a subject, or only the current selection via email.

5.5. Select Conversion

When you tap [Edit] > [Select Conversion] from the Toolbar, or tap [Select] in the Copy & Paste menu bar, the "Select Conversion" appears.
You can change the selection to uppercase, lower case, or capitalize, or also change it to double width or the normal width.

iEverText also allows text in Japanese to toggle between Zenkaku-Moji and Hankaku-Moji, and to change Hiragana to Katakana, or the reverse.

5.6. Clipboard

When you tap [Edit] > [Show Clipboard] from the Toolbar, or tap [Clipboard] in the the "Search Options", the "Clipboard" appears.
It displays the current clip which has been brought with either of the preceding "Cut", "Copy", or "Paste".

You can put more than one clip onto the clipboard, and give each clip an individual name to store them in the iPhone memory, as a scrap catalogue. Then you can quickly copy/paste each one into the text or the search bar, or can transfer it to other applications. It helps you to write a sender's address or a salutation for business letters and so on efficiently.

  
    

5.6.1. Clipboard - Add

When you tap [ + ] at either the upper-right /or bottom-right corner in the "Clipboard", the "Add Scrap" appears and ups the onscreen keyboard.
You can add the current clip, give the clip a name to store it into a scrap catalogue.

  
    

5.6.2. Clipboard - Edit

When you tap [Edit] in the "Clipboard", the "Clipboard - Now Editing" appears.
You can delete or change the order of the list, or modify an existing scrap.

  
    

5.7. Search

When you tap [Find] > [Search] or [Search Selection] from the Toolbar, the search bar appears.
You can search the current text for a word or phrase in the Search mode. While you are searching, you can rewrite and edit any text including a response to the search.
You can search for a text with the Regular Expression, as well.

  
    

5.8. Search All

[Search All] appears in the Edit Actions, providing that you tap the [Edit] icon at the bottom second left, in the Search or the Search / Replace mode. It appears only while searching a text, or searching and replacing a text.

When you tap [Edit] > [Search All], iEverText looks for all occurrences of the search expression in the current text and then displays a list of results containing the searched strings in the "Search All". Unless it searches for anything, it will respond "0".
You can search all again to find another word as well as "Search".

  
    

5.9. Search / Replace

When you tap [Find] > [Search / Replace] from the Toolbar, the search / replacement bars appears. You can search the current text for a word or phrase, and then change that word or phrase to the replacement expression, in the Search / Replace mode.
As you search, you can change each occurrence to the replacement expression one by one, or replace all occurrences at a once. While you are searching and replacing, you can rewrite and edit any text including a response to the search.
You can search for a text with the Regular Expression, as well.

  
    

5.10. Replace All

[Replace All] appears in the Edit Actions, providing that you tap the [Edit] icon at the bottom second left, in the Search / Replace mode. It appears only while searching and replacing a text.

When you tap [Edit] > [Replace All], iEverText looks for all occurrences of the search expression, and then changes all the results to the replacement expression at once.
After replacing, you will see the message "xx Replaced."

  
    

5.11. Search Options

When you tap the [Bookmarks] icon at the right side in the search bar, the "Search Options" appears.
You can set the search options to "Search", "Search / Replace", "Search All", "Replace All", and "File Search".

Note the following ;
If you are now trying "File Search" for the Evernote, another "Evernote Options" appears instead.

Ignore Case Searches for a text without consideration of upper or lower case letters.
Ignore Width Searches for a text in Japanese without consideration of Zenkaku-Moji, double bytes alphanumeric characters and Hankaku-Moji, single byte alphanumeric characters.
Ignore Diacritics
Searches for a text without consideration of diacritic letters, such as accented, Umlautzeichen, trema, etc.
Regular Expression Searches for a text with the Regular Expression.

Wrap Around Searches throughout the current text, until the end of the text and searches again from the beginning. Not appears in "File Search".

  
    

5.12. Jump

When you tap [Find] > [Jump] from the Toolbar, the line numbers slider bar appears, and shows the current line number placing either an editing cursor or the highlighted selection, in the Jump mode.
By sliding the slider to the right or left, or tapping the icon, you can quickly move the cursor onto any line you want to edit. While you are jumping, you can rewrite and edit any text as well.

* You can also view text by turning each page over in turn like paper notes, providing that the current page layout is "Show Page Size".

  
    

5.13. Character Count

When you tap [Info] > [Character Count] from the Toolbar, the "Character Count" appears.
As you edit, you can browse the statistics for the whole text or the current selection. The statistics shown are: the number of characters, words, paragraphs, lines, pages, and the Unicodes' characters. You can copy all the statistics.

Characters Displays the number of characters.
Roman Chars Displays the number of the single byte alphanumeric characters, including Hankaku-Moji in Japanese.
Wide Chars Displays the number of the double bytes alphanumeric characters, including Zenkaku-Moji in Japanese.

Words Displays the number of words.
Paragraphs Displays the number of paragraphs.
Lines Displays the number of lines.
Pages Displays the number of pages, providing that the current page layout is "Show Page Size". Disappears, unless it.

Unicodes Displays the number of the Unicodes' characters.

 
   

By tapping a current-editing file name (the first left one) from the Navigation bar, the "Character Count" appears. (without Lines, Pages.)

  
    

5.14. Settings

When you tap [Info] > [Settings] from the Toolbar, the "Settings" appears.

You can select which suits the current editing best from a variety of text settings - the text style, line format, page layout, including the font, size, color, adjustment, line space and width, margins, word wrap, and tab intervals etc. You can take your easiest ways of typing and editing as well.
You can also change the overall look of iEverText, including the background color, icons, Toolbar, and Navigation bar.
There are helpful options for exchanging files and keeping their file-compatibility with other devices, too.
While in "Settings", you can see the help whenever you are not exactly sure how the item works.

Line Numbers >> Show Line Numbers and its Color
Invisibles >> Show Invisibles and its Color, Show Space Code, and Tab Interval
Ruled Line >> Show bottom borders and its Color
Manuscript Paper >> Cell Size and Cell Counts of the Japanese manuscript paper

Open and Save >> Autosave, Entering Title
Text Input >> Show Left/Right Keys, Autocapitalize Sentences, Autocorrection
Options >> Discard Changes Alert, Jump by Left edge Tap, Show Unicodes in Red, Japanese-wrap Characters, and Show Ruby
Collaborations >> Evernote Logout, Use TextExpander touch snippet expansion, Use ATOK Pad together on iEverText (Only in Japanese)

  
    

5.14.1. Settings - Text Styles

Kanji Font Tap the "Kanji Font", then tap the font name you want to use for Japanese characters, and tap [Back]. The initial setting is "Hiragono Kaku Gothic ProN W3". You can choose "IPA Mincho" instead.

Roman Font Tap the "Roman Font", then tap the font name you want to use for the alphanumeric characters, and tap [Back]. The initial setting is same font as the Kanji Font.

Font Size Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of points you want to use.

Text Color Tap the "Text Color" to choose the color of a text.
The "Select Color" will follow.
After choosing a color, tap [Back] in the "Select Color".

  
    

5.14.2. Settings - Line Format

Vertical Writing Switches the writing direction between the standard horizontal, left to right "Horizontal Writing" and the vertical, top to bottom "Vertical Writing". When checked ON, you can edit in the natural direction for Japanese and Chinese. It rotates the line direction vertically, to orient the vertical writing characters. You can see the cursor indicating horizontally to select characters vertically, and can see the text flowing from "top to bottom" and "right to left" unlike the standard horizontal. This is the "Tategaki", a Japanese Vertical Writing format, normally used for Japanese books.

Alignment Drag the slider to the right or left, and choose one from the following text alignments.

Left Aligns text along the left edge.
Center Centers text.
Right Aligns text along the right edge.
Justified Spreads text evenly between the left and right edges.

Word Wrap When checked ON, it expels the prohibition characters, to the beginning of the next line. Providing that you enter Japanese characters, it dangles the dangle-prohibition characters at the end of the line, and expels the prohibition characters.

Line Spacing Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of pixels you want between each line. Makes the height of the lines wider or narrower.

Line Width Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of pixels you want for the width of each line. If the width you choose is very wide, you can swipe across the screen.

Auto Wraps lines based on the width of the screen. This is the default.

* The pixels have the same value as the number of dots of the screen.

  
    

5.14.3. Settings - Page Layout

Show Page Size When checked ON, you can see the page number of each page at the left edge below the line numbers, providing that "Show Line Numbers" is ON. As you swipe/or flick up and down through the pages of your text, the scrolling speed slows around each page border to show the text at a page. You can also view text by turning each page over in turn like paper notes with the "Jump".

* A page includes the main text area, and the margins spaced between the edge of the screen, displayable area. These dimensions for displayable area are based on the device you use. If you prefer to make the margins more inside, you can change the top, bottom, left, and right distances. If you prefer to make less lines on a page, you can change that, as well.

Top Margin Spaces between the top edge of the screen and the first line of text.
Bottom Margin Spaces between the bottom edge of the screen and the end line of text.
Left Margin Spaces between the left edge of the screen and the left wrap of lines.
Right Margin Spaces between the right edge of the screen and the right wrap of lines.

* If you want to use the left edge of the screen for text operations without displaying Line Numbers, make the Left Margin more than 12 pixels. Not only check "Jump by Left edge Tap" ON.

Page Lines Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of lines you want at one page.

Auto Displays lines based on the size of the screen. If the page lines you choose are too much and long for your device, try rotating it to landscape, iEverText will reduce and adjust lines.

  
    

5.14.4. Settings - Background / Selection

Background Color Changes the color of the background in the Text view.
Notes Background Makes the background the same color as the "Notes" application.

Selection Color Changes the color of the text selection.
Caret Color Changes the color of the editing cursor.

  
    

5.14.5. Settings - Line Numbers

Show Line Numbers When checked ON, you can see the line numbers every 5 lines at the left edge of the screen. This also allows you to use the left edge of the screen by tapping/dragging for text operations, as long as "Jump by Left edge Tap" is checked ON. If you want to use the left edge of the screen for sure, keeping this ON is a preferred way.

* Up to 999 digits of line numbers are displayed in one line, 1,000 and more are divided into two lines.
* You can also see the page numbers on each page at the left edge below the line numbers, providing that the "Show Page Size" is ON.

Line Numbers Color Tap the "Line Numbers Color" to choose the color of the line numbers.
The "Select Color" will follow.
After choosing a color, tap [Back] in the "Select Color".

  
    

5.14.6. Settings - Invisibles

Show Invisibles Makes the markings showing the invisible control codes - returns, tabs, new line codes, appear or disappear.

Invisibles Color Tap the "Invisibles Color" to choose the color of the markings.
The "Select Color" will follow.
After choosing a color, tap [Back] in the "Select Color".

Show Space Code Makes the markings showing the space codes, appear or disappear.

Tab Interval Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of pixels you want between tabs. The pixels have the same value as the number of dots of the screen.

Auto Sets the distance between tabs to the same width as the space. This is the default.

  
    

5.14.7. Settings - Ruled Line

Show Ruled Line When checked ON, you can see the bottom border in each line of text.
* The bottom borders are often used for Japanese notes.

Ruled Line Color Tap the "Ruled Line Color" to choose the color of the bottom borders.
The "Select Color" will follow.
After choosing a color, tap [Back] in the "Select Color".

  
    

5.14.8. Settings - Manuscript Paper

Cell Size Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of pixels you want for the width of a cell for the Japanese manuscript paper. The pixels have the same value as the number of dots of the screen.
* The Japanese manuscript paper, "Genkou-youshi" is widely used by the Japanese publishing industry and schools etc.

None Does not make the Japanese manuscript paper.

Cell Count Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the number of characters you want in one line on the Japanese manuscript paper.

Auto Adjusts the number of cells to the line width. This is the default.

  
    

5.14.9. Settings - Appearance

Black Appearance When checked ON, you can make the screen black, reversing the normal white.
Unless you change each default, the "Text Color" in Black and the "Background Color" in White, it makes the whole screen black. The Status bar, the Navigation bar, the Text view, and the Toolbar, and all text reverse black and white as well.

* Providing you change the default of the "Background Color" in White to the other colors, it keeps the background color within the Text view and changes only the Status bar, the Navigation bar, and the Toolbar to black appearance. The text remains black or your choice of the "Text Color".

Show Icon and Text Makes the names of icons in the Toolbar appear or disappear.
Show Toolbar Makes the Toolbar appear or disappear.
Show NavigationBar Makes the Navigation bar appear or disappear.
Show StatusBar Makes the Status bar appear or disappear.

Appearance Color Tap the "Appearance Color" to choose the background color of the Navigation bar.
Bar Button Color Tap the "Bar Button Color" to choose the color of the [Close] [Select Text Name] [File] button of the Navigation bar.

5.14.10. Settings - Open and Save

Autosave Drag the slider to the right or left, until it reaches the value in minutes, of how frequently you want iEverText to save a copy of the opened file automatically.

* An automatically saved file will rescue an editing file, if something unexpected happens on iPhone or iEverText. The "Autosave" does not save the original file itself, but makes an invisible temporary file in the iPhone memory only while you open the file. It saves your changes every few minutes to safeguard your edits, in case iEverText quits unexpectedly.
Make sure you save a file before closing in any case, or all unsaved changes will be discarded.

None Does not make a temporary file nor safeguards your edits.

Untitled Drag the slider to the right or left, and choose one from the following titles. You can skip typing the file name every time you save files.

Untitled Enters "Untitled" in the file name field. This is the default.
First Line Title Enters the first line of each file in the file name field.
Date Title Enters the date of each file in the file name field.

  
    

5.14.11. Settings - Text Input

Show Left / Right keys When checked ON, you can use two buttons that enable you to move an editing cursor to the left/right effortlessly like a keyboard's arrow keys, in the Navigation bar in the Write mode. If you check this OFF, they disappear. Note that these buttons appear only in iOS 5 and later.

Autocapitalize Sentences When checked ON, every time you try to type with the onscreen keyboard, the first alphabet letter of each line will be an upper case automatically.

Autocorrection When checked ON, iEverText checks a misspelled word as you type, and enables you to correct the spelling from the suggested alternatives instantly.

Show Ruled Line when input When checked ON, iEverText appears the ruled line during text input.

   
    

5.14.12. Settings - Options

DiscardChanges Alert When checked ON, you will see the confirmation message before closing a file, providing that it contains any unsaved change. Unless you feel it unnecessary particularly, keep this ON.

Jump by Left edge Tap When checked ON, you can use the left edge of the screen which enables you to jump to a particular line by tapping, or to scroll up or down quickly by dragging.
* Unless your screen has a wide enough left edge, this is not effective. To use the left edge of the screen for sure, keep this ON. Besides, check "Show Line Numbers" ON, or make the Left Margin more than 12 pixels with the "Settings - Page Layout".

Show Ruby (Aozora Bunko) When checked ON, you can see rubies and emphasis dots in Japanese. Both expressions' format follows Aozora Bunko. If you feel them unnecessary, check this OFF.
* Note that, rubies and emphasis dots are the distinct features for Japanese. In any language other than Japanese, turning this OFF is preferable.

Aozora Bunko Convert When checked ON, you can convert the Aozora Bunko text. If you feel them unnecessary, check this OFF.

Show Unicode Red When checked ON, you can see the Unicode compatibility characters in red, such as precomposed diacritic letters - accented, Umlautzeichen, trema, etc., or mathematical alphanumeric symbols, or others like Japanese extended Kanji-characters of the "level 3 or 4 Kanji set".

Horz in Vert Only executes in Vertical Writing. Makes the 1~5 alphanumeric characters or less in "Vertical Writing" turn horizontally.

Japanese-wrap Characters Tap the "Japanese-wrap Characters" to assign the prohibition characters to the Japanese hyphenation.
The "Japanese-wrap Characters" will follow.
After assigning characters, tap [Back] in the "Japanese-wrap Characters".
* Note that, the "Japanese-wrap Characters" makes no sense for Western languages.

  
    

5.14.13. Settings - Collaborations

Evernote Logout Logout the Evernote.

Use Web Login When checked ON, you can use the Web login screen without using the Evernote application.

TextExpander This appears, providing that you have installed TextExpander on iPhone. Disappears, unless it.
When checked ON, you can use TextExpander directly in iEverText to type faster using short abbreviations that expand into long snippets. With TextExpander touch by SmileOnMyMac, LLC, you can compose notes quickly and easily that contain frequently-used text, addresses, phone numbers, email signatures, URLs, etc.

Update Snippets You can update the newer snippets of TextExpander.

If your installed TextExpander touch has "Share Snippets" turned on under "Snippet Sharing," then TextExpander touch will write its data to a persistent pasteboard on exit, and iEverText will be able to access that data in the Write mode, the search bar, and the search / replacement bars. Other than those screens or fields will not be accessed. As iEverText supports multitasking, you can inform the TextExpander when iEverText returns to the foreground so that it can update its data if that data has changed while iEverText was in the background.

iWriters This appears, providing that you have installed iWriters on iPhone. Disappears, unless it.
When checked ON, you will see the [iWriters] icon in the Toolbar. By tapping it, you can use iWriters together on iEverText.

* iWriters is the writer app by LIGHT,WAY. (Release in January 2014)

Work by Double Tap By double-tap the text screen, you can use iWriters.

ATOK Pad (Only in Japanese) This appears, providing that you have installed ATOK Pad on iPhone. Disappears, unless it.
When checked ON, you will see the [ATOK Pad] icon in the Toolbar. By tapping it, you can use ATOK Pad together on iEverText.

* ATOK Pad is the Japanese memo app by JustSystems Corp.

  
    

5.14.14. Japanese-wrap Characters (Only in Japanese)

When you tap the "Japanese-wrap Characters" in the "Settings", the "Japanese-wrap Characters" appears.
You can assign your own prohibition characters to the Japanese hyphenation.
* The Japanese hyphenation is called the Kinsoku-shyori in Japanese. It neatly handles Japanese characters that should not be at the beginning and end of lines.

Dangles-Prohibition Characters Assigns the prohibition characters to be dangled at the end of lines.
Prohibition Characters at Head of Line Assigns the prohibition characters to be expeled at the beginning of lines and to be sent from the next line.
Prohibition Characters at Tail of Line Assigns the prohibition characters to be expeled at the end of lines and to be sent it to the next line.

  
    

5.15. Select Color

When you tap the "xx Color" in the "Settings", "Select Color" appears.
You can choose a color for each item such as a text, background, selection, cursor, or marker.

RGB Color Drag each of the Red, Green, and Blue slider to the right or left, until they reach the values you want to color the item. Each of the values is between 0-255.

Color Palette Tap any you want from the ready made color palette. About 80 colors are available.

  
    

5.16. Select Layout

When you tap [Info] > [Select Layout] from the Toolbar, the "Select Layout" appears.

You can customize your own layouts, from the "Text Styles" to the "Manuscript Paper" in the "Settings", and give each layout an individual name and list them. Depending on how you want to edit a text, you can change it to a suitable layout with one tap. Add your own favorite new ones.
You can delete or change the order, or modify an existing layout, as well. If you want to delete all layouts you added, you can readily return the list to the default selections, too.

With a tap, you can also hide unwanted bottom borders, or use a helpful ready-made layout - Memo, Notes, Book Reader, Japanese manuscript paper etc.

* Providing that your device is iPad or in landscape view in iPhone, the [Vertical Writing/Horizontal Writing] icon appears additionally, at the bottom of the screen.
By tapping [Vertical Writing/Horizontal Writing], you can edit in the natural direction for Japanese and Chinese.

[Show/Hide Line Numbers] Makes the line numbers appear or disappear. This icon appears at the bottom fourth right, around the middle of the Toolbar.
[Show/Hide Invisibles] Makes the invisibles appear or disappear. This icon appears at the bottom third right of the Toolbar.
[Show/Hide Ruled Line] Makes the bottom borders appear or disappear. This icon appears at the bottom second right corner, i.e. left of [ + ] of the Toolbar.

When you tap [ + ] at either the upper-right /or bottom-right corner in the "Select Layout", the "Add Layout" appears.
You can list the current layout, or customize your own new one, from those in "Settings", from "Text Styles" to "Manuscript Paper" and give them an individual name.

When you tap [Edit] in the "Select Layout", the "Select Layout - Now Editing" appears.

With iEverText, you can preview a variety of .epub eBooks, in text.

ePub (short for electronic publication; alternately capitalized as EPUB, EPub, or epub) is a free and open e-book standard, by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Files have the extension .epub. ePub became the official standard of the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) in September 2007, superseding the older Open eBook standard.

You can download over a million public domain books in the Open ePub Format from many websites around the world, including Google Books, and the Apple iBook Store.

Note that, iEverText must be sure that the file you are going to open is indeed out of copyright under laws. Due to copyright restrictions, iEverText can read only the standard non-DRM ePub files, so can not read the commercial DRM-protected[1] ePub files and non-public domain files.
* [1]DRM (Digital rights management) technologies attempt to control use of digital media by preventing access, copying or conversion to other formats by end users.

A. To download and open a Free ePub title directly ;
1. Executes the "Safari" of the web browser.
2. Tap the URL and type the webpage address in URL, and then tap [Go] on the onscreen keyboard.
3. Then browse it to find the title you want to read.
By using the address bookmarks, you can do it with a few taps.
4. By tapping the link of the ePub file, the title will be downloaded.
5. By tapping [Import with iEverText] in the "Share" of the "Safari", the title will be opened as a new text file. The downloaded ePub file will be deleted automatically.
6. Then you can save it by tapping [File] > [Save As].

zip is the file format for compressed data. Files have the extension .zip.

A. To receive and open a zip file through "Web sharing" on a Mac or PC ;

Once you save or open a file, iEverText stops connecting to the Evernote. As you type or edit any change in the opened file, [Sync with Evernote] appear in the File Actions. They appear only while editing the file that was opened from the Evernote. By tapping either, you can do the following.


A. If both the original note within the Evernote and your opened current file have no changes, iEverText displays the following message.

"The original note has no changes. Stays same as your opened file."

B. If the original note within the Evernote contains some changes but your opened current file has no changes, iEverText displays the following message.

"The original note contains some changes. Do you want to update the current file from Evernote?"

  
    

C. If both the original note within the Evernote and your opened current file contain some changes, iEverText displays the following message.

"The original note contains some changes. Do you want to discard your unsaved changes and update the current file from Evernote?"

* If you want to save both files, tap [Cancel] and save both of them individually.

6.3.1. How can I move a file into another folder ?

You can move a saved text file or folder into another folder. Do the following.
* In the same way, you can move an existing note/tag/notebook stored in the Evernote, providing that you are now connecting to each.

1. Tap [Evernote] from the Toolbar, and tap [Edit].
The "Evernote - Now Editing" screen appears.
2. Tap the blue (i) icon at the right side of the file/folder you want to move.
A list of folder names appears in the "Rename" screen.
3. Tap the folder you want to move it into.
4. Tap [Change].
* By tapping [Cancel], you can stop the change and return to the "Evernote - Now Editing".
5. Tap [Finish Editing] and tap [Back].

1. Tap [File] > [Save As] from the Navigation bar, and tap the [New Folder] icon at the bottom second right in the "Save As".
The "New Folder" screen appears and ups the onscreen keyboard.

6.3.2. Why don't you try the colorful Black Appearance ?

You can keep favorite colors for the text and for the background within the Text view, and change only the Status bar, the Navigation bar, and the Toolbar to black. Do the following.

1. Tap [Info] > [Settings] from Toolbar.
2. Change each default of the "Text Color" in Black and the "Background Color" in White to the other colors.
3. Then turn the "Black Appearance" ON, and tap [Back].

* The opposite, to make the whole screen black, keep each default, the "Text Color" in Black and the "Background Color" in White, and turn the "Black Appearance" ON. The text also reverses black and white.

Aozora Bunko is a Japanese non-profit organization's Internet library. They stock some world-famous Japanese authors' works whose copyright has expired. There are many free titles to read at Aozora Bunko and iEverText will help you read them.

With a few taps, iEverText downloads the title and opens it recreating the suitable Japanese characteristics automatically, including rubies, emphasis dots, and the Japanese Unicode compatibility characters. You can also preview these titles in the Japanese-manuscript paper.

  
    

6.5. What are the differences in iEverText between iPad and iPhone, iPod touch ?

What makes difference is just how a screen is treated.
iEverText adjusts the screen size and the kind of icons in each device so that everyone feel comfortable and natural enough.

6.6. How can I search for a text with the Regular Expression ?

You can search for a text with the Regular Expression in "Search", "Search / Replace", "Search All", "Replace All", and "File Search", providing that you have turned the Regular Expression ON in the "Search Options".

* iEverText checks the text corresponding to the specified conditional expression and retrieves the occurrences. To compose an expression on what condition you will search for, you can use the specific characters called the Regular Expression Meta-characters. You can also use the Escape-sequence Characters such as a '\' character etc., to compose the conditional strings in the Regular Expression.
